I love chocolate mousse.
After years of cooking without a mixer, I recently treated myself to a red KitchenAid stand mixer. It has changed how I approach simple desserts, and the very first thing I made with it was a classic chocolate mousse. This version is straightforward, light, and not overly sweet—perfect for a quick treat or an elegant finish to a meal.
Easy Chocolate Mousse
Ingredients:
1 pint very cold heavy whipping cream
1/2 cup cacao powder (or cocoa powder)
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Optional garnishes: sliced almonds, fresh berries, shaved chocolate or mint leaves
Instructions:
Pour the cold heavy cream into the mixing bowl. Add the cacao powder and powdered sugar.
Start the mixer on the lowest setting for 1–2 minutes to incorporate the dry ingredients.
Increase the speed and whip until soft to medium peaks form and the mixture holds shape. Be careful not to overbeat.
Spoon the mousse into serving dishes and finish with any desired garnishes.
This recipe is quick, adaptable, and relies on good-quality cocoa or cacao for the best chocolate flavor. Using very cold cream helps the mousse whip up light and airy. If you prefer a richer texture, you can fold in a small amount of melted dark chocolate that has been cooled slightly before combining.
