China House, China House Swissvale, PA
This will be a brief review of my takeout experience from China House in Swissvale, PA.
I ordered takeout one evening because I wanted Chinese food instead of pizza. The call was placed around 6:00 p.m., and my order was ready in about 15 minutes, which was convenient.
First I opened the Almond Chicken. The dish contained only a few small pieces of unsauced chicken, some broccoli, and a sprinkling of crushed almonds. A separate small container held a thick, hot liquid that we could not clearly identify by taste. Overall, the Almond Chicken arrived dry and lacking distinct flavor.
The General Tso’s chicken was closer to expectations. The chicken pieces were small but the sauce was flavorful and the dish tasted good.
The fried rice I ordered did not resemble typical fried rice. It had the texture of starch soaked in broth and lacked common ingredients such as peas, egg, or any noticeable frying.
We also had a few summer rolls. They had pleasant flavors but were noticeably undercooked.
The meal was finished with almond cookies and fortune cookies.
In summary, the food was disappointing overall due to dryness, missing components, and undercooking in places. On the positive side, the owners who work at the restaurant were very kind and accommodating during the transaction.
