Adobe Verde Restaurant and Bar in Gruene, TX — Live Music & Riverfront Dining

Earlier this month we visited Adobe Verde, a riverside restaurant tucked beside the Guadalupe River in historic Gruene, Texas.

With perfect weather, we chose a table on the patio to enjoy the day. The chips and salsa were a touch mild for our tastes, but it didn’t matter — the warm air, live music, and a pitcher of well-mixed margaritas made for a delightful afternoon.

My daughter, who attends Texas State University, joined us and ordered the Sizzling Veggie Skillet with shrimp added. She praised the seasoning and flavor of both the vegetables and the shrimp and said she would order it again.

A friend chose the Tampiqueño Cancun — a diced beef fajita topped with onion, cilantro, salsa quemada, and melted jack cheese, served with a cheese enchilada, rice, beans, guacamole, lettuce, and tomato. He enjoyed his meal and cleaned his plate.

I ordered a cup of tortilla soup paired with a chicken fajita taco. The soup, which the menu notes is made from scratch daily, was excellent and stood out as the highlight of my meal. I enjoyed it so much I’d return just for that soup and might try to recreate it at home. The taco was a bit bland, but the soup and margaritas made the meal very satisfying.

After our meal we strolled to Gruene Hall, the oldest dance hall in Texas, and browsed a handful of nearby souvenir shops. The shops offered a fun mix of items, and we laughed our way through the visit, enjoying the charming atmosphere of Gruene.
