Why We Love These Peppermint Oreo Truffles
These truffles check a lot of boxes: no-bake convenience, broad dietary compatibility, and freezer-friendly storage. They’re easy to make ahead, travel well, and are perfect when you need a crowd-pleasing sweet that doesn’t require an oven.

Ingredient Tips
For the Cookie Base
For a gluten-free and dairy-free option, look for GF/DF sandwich cookies like gluten-free Oreos or similar chocolate sandwich cookies. These aren’t paleo, but they do solve GF/DF needs. If you prefer paleo-friendly ingredients, swap in a paleo chocolate cookie such as Simple Mills crunchy double chocolate cookies. Peppermint extract and crushed candy cane topping are optional but add a festive punch; the truffles freeze well for several months when stored in an airtight container.

The White Chocolate
Dairy-free white chocolate can be tricky: some brands don’t melt smoothly. Enjoy Life Foods white chocolate chips are a reliable choice that melt well. If you need a paleo version, many white chocolates contain refined sugar; in that case use a semi-sweet paleo-friendly chocolate such as Hu hunks and adjust the flavor to taste.
Dipping Tips
Dipping truffles in chocolate seems simple, but a few techniques make the process much easier and more reliable:
- Keep the chocolate smooth and thin. Overheating chocolate causes it to seize and become lumpy. For best control, melt on low heat on the stove and stir frequently. If the melted chocolate is too thick but not burned, thin it with 1–2 tablespoons of melted coconut oil.
- Freeze the truffles solid before dipping. Cold, firm truffles hold together when dipped and won’t slide off the skewer or toothpick.
- Use the toothpick method. Insert a toothpick into each frozen truffle and dip into the chocolate. After the coating sets, remove the toothpick and cover the small hole with a dab of melted chocolate.
- Use a cup or mug for dipping. Line a tall mug with a sandwich-size zip-top bag, fold the bag’s top over the rim, and pour the melted chocolate into the bag. This creates a narrow, deep well for easy dipping and simple cleanup. Save the leftover chocolate in the bag to pipe decorative lines on top.

These truffles require just a few core ingredients and a little chilling time — simple, festive, and delicious.

Food processor
-
25 toothpicks
Ingredients
- 30 cookies Gluten-free Oreos 1 12-ounce package
- 4 ounces dairy-free cream cheese we love Violife for nut-free and creamy!
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract
- 1 1/2 cups dairy-free white chocolate Enjoy Life Foods mini chips recommended
- 3 crushed candy canes organic, red dye-free recommended
Instructions
-
Place cookies in a food processor and pulse until you have fine crumbs, about 1–2 minutes on high.
-
Add the dairy-free cream cheese and peppermint extract, then process until the mixture forms a cohesive ball, about 1 minute.
-
Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls. Arrange on a parchment-lined tray and freeze until solid, about 10 minutes.
-
While the truffles freeze, melt the white chocolate. To avoid burning, melt gently over low heat on the stove and stir frequently for 3–4 minutes. Microwaving can easily scorch dairy-free chips.
-
Dip the frozen truffles by inserting a toothpick into each one and lowering it into the melted chocolate. Use a lined mug with a zip-top bag as a dipping cup for easy handling and cleanup.
-
After dipping, remove the toothpick, then quickly cover the hole with a small dab of melted chocolate. Pipe decorative lines from leftover chocolate and immediately sprinkle crushed candy canes before the coating sets.
-
Store finished truffles in a sealed container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Thaw briefly before serving if desired.
