Holiday Celebrations at Universal Orlando Resort

We had just one full day for the holiday festivities and wished we had planned two or three. The events, shows, and seasonal décor are spread across both parks, and having extra time lets you enjoy everything without rushing from one spot to the next.

Download the Universal Orlando app before your visit to check current showtimes, wait times, and other updates. Some performances run multiple times while others appear only once daily, so check the schedule and plan accordingly.

The holiday offerings span Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios. If possible, buy a two-park pass for each day so you can move between parks freely. That also lets you ride the Hogwarts Express — a highlight that’s worth the extra planning.

Don’t miss the seasonal treats around the parks. There are plenty of specialty desserts and cocktails available to help you celebrate the season.

Holiday Celebrations at Islands of Adventure

Islands of Adventure hosts two major seasonal highlights: Grinchmas in Seuss Landing and the holiday lights on Hogwarts in Hogsmeade. Hogsmeade is beautifully decorated and serving hot butterbeer, while Seuss Landing becomes a whimsical winter wonderland where you may spot Whos from Whoville.

Holiday Lights on Hogwarts at Hogsmeade

The holiday lights on Hogwarts are a standout. The castle comes alive with projections and music in a loop that runs roughly every 15–20 minutes. Expect crowds, especially on opening nights, and plan where you’ll watch from. We found views toward the back of the area offer a full perspective of the castle and projections.

Right after the Macy’s parade ends, lines for the Hogwarts Express and other attractions can grow long as people move between parks to catch the lights. If you have an express pass, it can save you a lot of time. Some visitors choose to walk across from the front of Universal Studios to Islands of Adventure and then head to the back of the park to reach the show more quickly.

Seuss Landing

Seuss Landing bursts with colorful decorations and Whoville characters. You may spot Whos carrying shopping bags, join a storytime or a game, and possibly see the Grinch roaming the area. He can be sulky, but sometimes he’ll pose for photos if he’s feeling generous.

Barney’s Holiday Show

Barney’s Holiday Show is ideal for little ones and a nice chance for parents to relax for a few minutes. It’s a charming, family-friendly performance that adds variety to the seasonal lineup.

Always check the Universal Orlando Resort app for up-to-date showtimes on the day you visit.

CityWalk and Onsite Hotel Celebrations

Holiday cheer extends beyond the parks to CityWalk and the resort hotels. Onsite hotels decorate with spectacular trees and themed dining and drinks. Properties we enjoyed include Cabana Bay Beach Resort, Loews Portofino Bay Resort, Loews Sapphire Falls Resort, and Aventura. The hotel holiday trees make excellent backdrops for family photos and holiday cards.
